Campus Trend-spotting

So I spent all day creeping around campus to discover the trends at UNT.  It was really difficult to divide the outfits and styles I saw into specific categories because everyone I met had such different styles.  I tried my best to organize my findings, and I am going to try to trend-spot at least once a week and make trend-spotting a permanent part of my blog.

Vera Bradley
Vera Bradley is what 60% of the girls are carrying.  These brightly colored quilted bags can be spotted from a mile away.  I am mildly addicted to Vera and have a few of their products.

Just a few of the Vera Bradley products I bring with me to class.

Comfy-Cute
I went trend-spotting on a Monday so the majority of students were well rested umm recovering from the weekend.  Thus I saw a lot of sweat pants and sweatshirts.  In the midst of the sweats I saw a lot of girls who looked very cute and comfortable (how I got my title comfy-cute).  To pull off this look you need an old pair of jeans/leggings and a biggish sweater/sweatshirt/t-shirt/whatever.  It's a pretty simple look to pull off and is a nice substitute for those faded and stained sweats.

Effortless Chic
These girls all look very cute and put together.  These outfits are all easy to put together and incorporate pieces that you could mix and match with other pieces in your closet to make multiple outfits.

Love the leggings and long shirt.
Obsessed with this coat.  Much chicer than my old Northface
Love the pop of color with the skirt.  Wearing one bold piece is an easy way to show your personality without burning people's eyes with your busy outfit.
One of my creepier pictures.  Love the bag, boots, cardigan, everything!

 Professional Denim
These looks all incorporate denim but they aren't your jeans and t-shirt look.  The ladies all look professional but still comfortable.  The key to mastering this look is to have a good pair of jeans (I recommend 7 for all Mankind) an embellished tank or blouse, and a simple cardigan or jacket.
I love the embellishments on her cardi.  It's a PARTY-CARDI!

Thank you Nicole for letting me be a creepy neighbor!

This looks like the perfect airport outfit.  Love the scarf.

I was BEYOND excited when I spotted a fanny pack on campus.  I am a fanny pack enthusiast and love the little guys.  Maybe one day you will get a peek at my little fanny pack collection.  Yes, I was too embarrassed excited to ask the girl to take her picture so I creepily took this from the stairwell.

Fanny Packs are my weakness.

Through this exercise I learned:
a. I like and can identify with many different styles (Classic, boho, hipster, and comfy to name a few)
b. I can be super incredibly creepy if I need to be
c. It takes a lot of guts to do what Bill Cunningham does (I always got so nervous as I walked up to someone wearing an interesting outfit).
d. Trend-spotting takes a lot of time and practice, and it is something I would like to work on to become better.
e. I need to go shopping. I want to recreate all these looks now!

Stay Classy,

Natalie Rose
